The audience waiting for the Luyas was uncomfortably wet. The torrential downpour raging outside of the venue meant that no one - not even those who took a cab right to the front door - was safe from the rain. Still, a warmth fell over the entire venue as soon as the Luyas took to the stage and their hearty serenades took hold. There's nothing better than a Canadian supergroup, and the Luyas consist of vocalist Jessie Stein (Miracle Fortress), horn player Pietro Amato (Bell Orchestre), drummer Stefan Schneider (Bell Orchestre) and organist Mathieu Charbonneau. There's also nothing better than unconventional instruments, and when Stein pulled out an unidentifiable stringed instrument, all the music enthusiasts held their breath. Polyphonic dream pop may be the best way to describe the vibes the Luyas pumped out, providing a cozy, comfortable hub away from the icy rain.
