There's nothing better than an overt visual cue at a show, especially a drummer so passionate that he stands while smacking away at his kit. Nevertheless, the cool thing about Friendly Dimension is that despite their exciting onstage antics, their music speaks entirely for itself. If you picked up the Stooges and threw them into the '80s post-punk scene, they would likely sound very much like Friendly Dimension. Their sound is refreshingly open, which is satisfying considering the current Canadian indie atmosphere that is overwrought with Bay Area lo-fi-influenced ensembles. While all the bands at the Youth Club Records showcase were excellent, Friendly Dimension may have been the most impressive, if not just for this attempted uniqueness.
