After several COVID-related delays, Genesis are finally due to kick off their reunion tour later this month in Europe. Ahead of their lengthy trek, longtime drummer and vocalist Phil Collins has shared an update about his involvement in the upcoming performances.
Speaking with BBC Breakfast [via NME], the musician explained that his ability to play drums is still extremely limited due to a spinal injury he sustained in 2007, so he likely won't be able offer percussion on the tour. Instead, his son Nic Collins will play drums.
"I'm kind of physically challenged a bit which is very frustrating because I'd love to be playing up there with my son," Collins said.
When asked if he would be able to play his kit on Genesis's upcoming tour, the musician responded, "No. No, I would love to but, you know, I mean I can barely hold a stick with this hand, so there are certain physical things that get in the way."
Genesis are scheduled to kick off the North American leg in November, following their upcoming European trek. After they cross the Atlantic, they'll hit Montreal's Centre Bell on November 22, before making their way to Toronto for a show at Scotiabank Arena on November 25.
The run will find Collins reuniting with Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks for a full tour for the first time since 2007. Collins' son Nic and guitarist/bassist Daryl Stuermer will also join. Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett will not be present for the tour.
