Being first onstage is never easy and the tiny crowd that gathered to catch relative nubes Persian Rugs seemed to rattle the band at first. "Thanks for coming. Or loading in while we play," joked singer-guitarist Ian Jackson, who seemed most comfortable hiding behind the wall of distortion from his guitar. But these guys are seasoned pros. Consisting of former member of the Diableros and the Airfields, the quartet quickly found their footing and blasted through a short set of C86-inspired indie pop while the bar started filling with appreciative ears. Singer and keyboardist Kate Hamilton was a particular highlight with some impressive vocals on tracks from their just released Always All seven-inch. By the end of their set, it was clear Persian Rugs were at the top of their game.
