Although it's been four years since UK stoner metal act Orange Goblin released their last studio full-length, Back From The Abyss, they've come back strong with an all-killer no-filler album, The Wolf Bites Back. The record is straight to the point fuzzed-out stoner rock built for any old-school heavy metal fan.
From the one-two punch of "Sons Of Salem" and "The Wolf Bites Back," Orange Goblin bring a rambunctious and hard-hitting attitude right out of the gate. The band show some diversity in their sound, between the Motörhead-worshipping "Renegade" and slower, bluesy tracks such as "Ghosts of the Primitives" and "The Stranger." The band keep their momentum up throughout, even bringing in punk elements on the speedy "Suicide Division."
Orange Goblin know what they do well and they stick to it. If you're looking for an experimental rock or metal record, you're better off ignoring The Wolf Bites Back, but if gritty classic stoner rock is you jam there are few bands who can deliver a better album.
