Oneidas Secret Wars comes in doses and, assuming you have no opposition towards the odd and danceable, youre pretty much guaranteed to find something you love about it. Youll probably pick and choose your favourite tracks each time you listen but your decision will surely change with every evaluation. Some days you might crave the Kinsella-meets-Zappa complexity of "The Last Act, Every Time, others youll devote to the army-chant dance groove of "Capt Bo Dignifies the Allegations With A Response. But have no doubt about it, theres a time and place for each of these nine songs. With the release of Secret Wars, Three Gut recruits a nice label-mate for our beloved Constantines and further diversifies the labels sound.
What are the major differences between your American and Canadian labels? At the moment, I suppose Three Gut is a little smaller but theres no real qualitative difference. At the time we started releasing records with Jagjaguar, things were very similar to the way Three Gut is now except that Three Gut gets a lot more attention and people really like it, whereas Jagjaguar sort of toiled away in obscurity for a long time. We only want to make music with people that we like and that we trust and that are willing to go at things in a communal or collectivist strategy. Thats how we make our music, thats how we do everything. We wouldnt want to work with a label that did it any other way.
Your bio says youre only interested in playing in Italy and remote Canadian cities. Wont your American label have something to say about that? Thats sort of our future goal. We are playing a lot in Italy this spring and well get to Canada, just not exclusively. It originally came from a conversation we had with the Constantines. We had some plans to play in places that I didnt even know existed. You know, places in Northern Canada where you have to fly or drive long distances to get to. Theres something about the wilds of Canada. Itd probably be much more fun to play there than anywhere in the U.S.
