Oneida

Rated O

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jul 6, 2009

It goes without saying that Oneida's Rated O is not for the feeble listener. After all, not many triple albums are, especially when they come boasting a "colossal vision of a new age." That said, this second instalment in the Brooklynites' Thank Your Parents trilogy is nothing short of a jaw-dropping, drool-inducing exercise in epic art rock insanity. It's also perhaps Oneida's most ambitious outing, packing in everything from groove-laden Kraut and bowel-shaking sludge, to hazy acid rock and even a bit warped, electrofied ragga. Sure, the band have often travelled down these sonic pathways before, but the now-five-member-strong crew pulls out all the stops on this one, coming out with a truly forward-thinking psych album that's out to challenge the listeners as much as it is the band themselves. Rated O is definitely a trip, and one that keeps the mind racing with each and every listen.
