Having revealed their new lineup ahead of contributing to Metallica's Blacklist last year, we suspected things were most definitely on with punk supergroup OFF!. Now, they're back with plans to release their first new album in eight years. They've also shared its insistent lead single "War Above Los Angeles" and a slew of 2022 North American tour dates to support the record, including a few Canadian stops.
Due September 30 via Fat Possum, Free LSD follows the band's 2014 album Wasted Years. It also functions as the soundtrack to "sci-fi punk rockumentary" Watermelon, which was introduced as an April Fool's joke in 2019.
"Since thinking of the album as a soundtrack to a weird sci-fi movie gave us permission to experiment, and the film explains, in a fantastical way, the creation of the album, they both go hand in hand as an overall art project," Dimitri Coats (ex-Burning Bridges) explained in a statement.
With a playful premise and their new lineup, OFF! are feeling revitalized: "After making music for as long as I have, it was time to use a palette that includes lime green, turquoise, and magenta instead of the typical colours and shades that were involved in all of the other breakneck and car chase scenarios," Keith Morris (ex-Black Flag, Circle Jerks) added. "Miles Davis with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters as opposed to Milo Goes to College."
The punks will kick off a run of dates supporting Free LSD starting in late October. They'll play Montreal's Cafe Campus on November 12 and Lee's Palace in Toronto on November 13, before hitting Vancouver's Rickshaw a month later on December 13. OFF! will flip the switch on the tour in Los Angeles on December 17.
Tickets go on sale Friday (July 29) at 10 a.m. local time via the band's website.
