Formerly known as Up + Downtown, Edmonton's Purple City Music Festival returns to paint the downtown core with a vibrant selection of live music from August 25 to 27. This year's lineup, the first wave of which has been announced today, boasts more than 60 performers hailing from across the globe.

OFF!, Light Asylum, Ringo Deathstarr, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Hand Habits, Death Valley Girls and Pleasure Venom are among the international headliners, with additional performances to come from Patriarchy, Pixel Grip, Sacred Skin, Pleasure Venom, Lightning Dust and Bootlicker.

On the CanCon side of things, there's also Canadian-born Los Angeleno Kontravoid, Guelph's Bonnie Trash, Toronto's Hot Garbage and Vancouver's Devours, as well as Calgary's Sunglaciers and Bat Scratch — fronted by one of the most pint-sized hardcore punks, seven-year-old Robbie Andrew.

Purple City will be held across multiple Edmonton venues, including the Starlite Room, Temple Stage, River City Revival House, both floors of the Freemasons Hall of Edmonton, McDougall United Church and the Downtown Edmonton Community League (DECL).

The entirety of it will be an all-ages/licensed event. New this year, there's the free Outdoor Stage and block party, which will feature music programming from 2 to 8 p.m. on August 26 and 27.

A limited number of early bird wristbands will be available via the festival website starting Tuesday (June 6) at 12 p.m. MT, with subsequent wristbands and individual tickets going on sale in the weeks to come.
