In this era that celebrates the post-punk and grunge of the late '80s and early '90s, we're all fortunate to have Odonis Odonis in our midst. It's true that the trio bear hallmarks of gloom-induced euphoria that higher-level weirdoes made into a cultural phenomenon some 20 years ago. But the band updates it all, with their hybrid of electronic and acoustic drums proving to be this technical foil to all the crunchy guitars, roaring vocals, and quiet-loud dynamics they had on display in Guelph, as they ripped through songs from their new Better EP. It's like the Pixies anticipated Steve Albini making fun of them and flipped the script by sounding more like Big Black before he even had a chance to press record.
