Nicki Minaj's Ex-Boyfriend Suing for Royalties

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 16, 2015

Throughout her meteoric rise, Nicki Minaj was inseparable from her boyfriend Safaree Samuels. Then, last year, the pair parted ways. Now, Samuels is suing Minaj for a cut of her profits.

As TMZ reports, Samuels is suing for a big bag of cash for his alleged work on the albums The PinkprintPink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. He also claims he's owed some moolah from her singles "Only" and Minaj's appearance on Beyoncé's "Flawless" remix.

Samuels has been a big part of Minaj's career from the beginning, when the pair rapped alongside one another in the early 2000s rap group the Hoodstars. He was previously listed as executive producer on Minaj's first two albums. He's expected to present a great deal of proof, from voice memos and footage to witnesses, to demonstrate that he worked on all of Nicki Minaj's albums.

Earlier this year, Samuels told The Breakfast Club that he was an integral part of Minaj's career. "Everytime it came to writing raps and doing music, it was her, me, and the beat. She doesn't do it by herself," he said. "It's me and her. Don't discredit me on what I've done for you."

Stay tuned for more information on the lawsuit as it unfolds.
