New Sales Model Alert: David Gray Releases New Album Exclusively Through Groupon

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 30, 2011

Prince gave away albums with magazines, and Kaiser Chiefs recruited their owns fans as salesmen. Now, sensitive British songwriter David Gray has come up with another new model to shift units: his new live album is available exclusively through Groupon.

This is the first time that the online voucher seller has ever had exclusive rights to an album. Entitled Lost and Found - Live in Dublin 2011, Gray's 12-song set includes a selection of live tracks from throughout the veteran songsmith's career. According to the product description, Gray's performance "retains the tight craftsmanship and simple, poignant narratives of his folk oeuvre while reimagining songs with the help of seven accompanying musicians, from cellists to rock smashers."

The digital-only album costs just $6, which is less than half of what Groupon says is a $12.99 value -- although this value seems a little arbitrary given that Lost and Found is unavailable elsewhere.

The album is available now, but only until this Friday (July 1). Once you've purchased it, you will have until November 2 to redeem the coupon for your download. You can buy a copy here.
