New Order Plan to Record "Electronic Synth Album" in 2013
Published Sep 17, 2012Here's news that's guaranteed to piss off Peter Hook to no end: the recently reunited New Order are planning to make a new album, and singer Bernard Sumner has already started mapping out what it's going to sound like.
Speaking with Mixmag (in a video interview that you can watch below) about writing new material, Sumner said, "We've had absolutely no time in which to do [a new album] this year, but next year we're not going to play as many gigs. We're going to play some, but not as many. So hopefully next year. I think it would be nice to make an electronic synth album, because the last few I've done have been guitar albums. So I think yes, it's on the books."
He similarly told BBC 6Music that New Order would play fewer shows in 2013 and begin working on new material. "Speaking to journalists and speaking to fans, they seem to really want to hear some new stuff," he said.
New Order previously planned to release a few outtakes from 2005's Waiting for the Sirens' Call, but those have yet to arrive. As previously reported, though, they have a North American tour coming up, and you can see those dates below.
Former bassist Peter Hook has repeatedly blasted the current members of New Order for playing shows without him, and the prospect of a new album is doubtless only going to raise his ire further.
