Neva Dinova

Neva Dinova

Neva Dinova is another band hailing from the currently trendy Omaha, NE. Though they’ve been together for a decade, this self-titled release is shockingly their debut album. Let’s hope they don’t consider themselves perfectionists, because if it took all ten years to make this record, they really need to re-establish what they consider perfection. Their brand of crystalline guitars and cloudy production has been heard 1000 times over, even from successful current bands like Interpol and the Walkmen. However, unlike those two, Neva Dinova’s vocalist Jake Bellows doesn’t have the charm and suave to give the music any character. Instead, he does bad Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley impressions most of the time, which begin to get on the nerves. It’s apathetic and monotonous and it is done all too often. We can only hope they’ve chosen new careers by the time 2012 rolls around, so they haven’t completely wasted their lives.
