Notable drummers including Red Chili Pepper Chad Smith, Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins, ex-Dream Theater beatkeeper Mike Portnoy and more will pay respects to Rush's Neil Peart in a new tribute this weekend.

Rush's late drummer and primary lyricist will be honoured with a tribute at the 2020 edition of the Modern Drummer Festival, set to take place September 12 on what would have been Peart's 68th birthday.

"Modern Drummer turns 45 next year and through more than 40 of them, we formed a close and unique collaboration with the one and only Neil Peart," publisher and CEO David Frangioni, expressed in a statement. "Neil even gave away his iconic candy apple red kit to a Modern Drummer reader in the '80s via mail-in letters chosen personally by Peart himself! It was without question that as Modern Drummer celebrates our twentieth festival, we are honoring Neil with a fitting tribute from some of his closest friends as well as world-class drummers that he inspired."

While further specifics of the Peart tribute have yet to be shared, the 2020 Modern Drummer Festival will also feature Carmine Appice, Styx's Todd Sucherman, Kenny Aronoff, Korn's Ray Luzier, Cindy Blackman-Santana, Thomas Lang, Alex Gonzalez, Rascal Flatts' Jim Riley, Danny Seraphine, Dom Famularo, Keith Carlock, Gregg Bissonette and Kristina Schiano.

The pay-per-view Modern Drummer Festival 2020 is produced and distributed by LiveXLive, with tickets on sale now. Proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to benefit brain tumor research.

Peart passed away in January following a battle with brain cancer. He was 67. A tribute in the drummer's hometown of St. Catharines was recently rescheduled for 2021.
