My Bloody Valentine Call Out Spotify for Uploading "Completely Incorrect and Insulting" Lyrics

"We're not sure where they got them from, probably one of those bullshit lyrics sites on the internet"

My Bloody Valentine took to Twitter yesterday to let listeners know that the band's lyrics shared via Spotify are inaccurate, calling the made-up or misinterpreted lyrics "completely incorrect and insulting."

"Just noticed that Spotify has put fake lyrics up for our songs without our knowledge," they tweeted. "These lyrics are actually completely incorrect and insulting. We're not sure where they got them from, probably one of those bullshit lyrics sites on the internet."

As of this morning (January 21), the Spotify lyrics have been taken down, and they've also been removed from Musixmatch, the site that Spotify partnered with for its lyric integrations.

Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde also chimed in, saying that a similar thing's been happening with his band's famously (and intentionally) inscrutable lyrics:

"I already informed @4ad and @Spotify that these (& all CT lyrics on the internet) are nonsense but I've no idea where it's all at," he wrote. "If we'd wanted our lyrics put up anywhere we would've done it 30 odd years ago. There's even a Twitter page dedicated to 'posting CT lyrics' – sad."

Spotify launched their lyric-integrating feature in November of 2021, and My Bloody Valentine only allowed their music to hit streaming services in March of that same year after signing with Domino.

So far, there's been no word from Spotify or Musixmatch on the matter.
