Mount Moriah Announce Sophomore Album for Merge Records

Mount Moriah initially released their self-titled album last year through Holidays for Quince, and more recently reissued it on vinyl through Merge. Now, the rootsy group are prepping a new album for their prestigious new label. Entitled Miracle Temple, it's due out on February 26.

The album was co-produced with Mark Nevers (Andrew Bird, Bonny "Prince" Billy, Lambchop) over five days at Beech House in Nashville. It features the core lineup of singer-guitarist Heather McEntire and guitarist Jenks Miller joined by bassist Casey Toll and drummer-pianist James Wallace. There are also guest musicians providing additional instrumentation like violin and pedal steel, plus backing vocals from Indigo Girls member Amy Ray.

The album expands on the Southern roots influences explored on the group's debut. A press release explains, "Miracle Temple sports bigger arrangements, louder guitars, bolder vocals, and more soulful rhythms than their acclaimed self-titled debut. Through their artful personal storytelling, the band develops a piercing portrait of a 'New South' where progressive traditions are still fitfully breaking free from conservative ones."
