Modern Charms

'Modern Charms' (EP stream)

Mark Palm spends part of his time slinging vicious thrash riffs in Seattle metal crew Black Breath, but the guitarist knows his way around a hooky melody, as evidenced by his alt-pop inspired outfit Modern Charms' upcoming self-titled 12-inch.

The band's membership is spread out between San Francisco and Vancouver, and their six-song set navigates '90s-minded territiories via shoegazing guitar dips and the gossamer coos of Inna Kurikova. Just check sublime soundscapes "Someday" or the Gish-indebted ballad "Ancient Cities" for proof.

Modern Charms is available digitally on the group's Bandcamp page, where you can also order a cassette edition of the song cycle. The 12-inch pressing is due to be released sometime in the near future by Vancouver imprint Clue #2, with pre-orders being taken now.

In other news, Palm's slightly crunchier pop project Supercrush officially released their previously teased Lifted"/"Melt Into You (Drift Away)" 7-inch through Bedside Records this week.
