Miguel Migs is pretty fucking chilled out. His music, buffeted by a soft, steady house beat, simply flows from place to place, roaming through genres and sound effects (was that a flock of birds we just sailed by?) as an acoustic guitar lick accompanies the breeze. While his "soul-driven deep house" occasionally picks up the pace from a languid groove to a soulful shuffle, his debut full-length, Colourful You, is more mood music than anything else. I guess it's quality in terms of functionality - ideal for, say, lounging in a park on a sunny afternoon or riding out a hangover - but when the album comes to a close, you remember only the relaxed vibe and nothing more. Soul II Soul pioneered a similar path more than a decade ago, but they remembered to bring a few songs along.
