METZ's Alex Edkins Details Debut Solo LP as Weird Nightmare, Shares First Single

Hear "Searching for You" ahead of the self-titled album

METZ bandleader Alex Edkins has detailed his debut album with new solo project Weird Nightmare and shared the first taste of its sound with lead single "Searching for You."

The self-titled LP is due May 20 via Sub Pop, which Edkins announced that he had signed to for the solo endeavour earlier this year — news which arrived shortly after METZ announced a split 7-inch with Adulkt Life.

Weird Nightmare will play an album release show at Toronto's Baby G on May 21 ahead of a handful of co-headlining US dates with fellow Canadian members of the Sub Pop roster Kiwi Jr.

"It's a fun, no nonsense rock 'n' roll song," Edkins said of the project's fuzz-coated, rip-roaring first single in a press release. "It's about searching for meaning and inspiration all around us. In my mind, the 'you' in the chorus refers to something bigger than companionship or love; it's that intangible thing we all look for but never find."
