Last year, we heard the sweet sounds of Merival on a collaborative track with Swim Good, LUM and Born Ruffians' Luke Lalonde, and she followed it up with a feature on Swim Good's Secret Songs offering "Since U Asked." Now, the Toronto-based artist is ready to unleash an EP of her own — and Exclaim! has got the premiere of "A Better Deal" from the forthcoming release.
Titled Lovers, the five-song offering was inspired by reflecting on relationships, and seeks to find "beauty and transformation in heartache." The first example of that can be heard on "A Better Deal," which serves as the EP's opening track.
A folksy feel washes over listeners with gently plucked acoustic guitar before Merival's vocals kick in. Haunting harmonies lift the song skywards, but manage to retain a charming sense of warmth throughout.
Lovers is due out on January 29, but you can hear "A Better Deal" right now in the player below.
