Maya Hawke Gives Theatrical Performance of "Thérèse" on 'The Tonight Show'

It's the lead single from 2022's 'MOSS'

Between starring in Netflix's Stranger Things and Do Revenge, recent Exclaim! cover star Maya Hawke is no stranger to the small screen. But she made a rarer appearance last night's (March 14) episode of The Tonight Show to perform "Thérèse" from last year's MOSS.

The haunting lead single from her sophomore album, the actor/singer-songwriter brought the song — about a young woman trapped inside a painting, inspired by Balthus's Thérése Dreaming — to life with a four-piece backing band, dressed in what can only be described as theatre garb.

Hawke is an actor through and through, which seeps into her storytelling both on paper and behind the mic. She maintains a fitting sense of glossy-eyed distance for "Thérèse" with whimsical, dazed-seeming arm movements as she tries to break free of the canvas.
