Veteran DJ Mat the Alien has been a mainstay at Canadian events for over two decades, performing at the likes of Shambhala, Bass Coast and many other events on a regular basis. On October 2, the performer born Mat Andrew suffered a mountain bike crash and is now paralyzed from the chest down.

A GoFundMe has emerged with details about Andrew's situation. The page seeks to raise $200,000 to help with costs associated with his recovery.

The GoFundMe post explains that, as a result of the "terrible mountain bike crash," Mat had to have emergency surgery on his vertebrae and spinal cord.

"While it's still very early on and new information continues to come in daily, we know that Mat is currently paralyzed from the chest down," the post continues. "This road to recovery will be a long and emotional battle for Mat. While we all know he is not one to shy away from a challenge, this is going to be the biggest fight of his life."
