Today marks 128 years since Massey Hall opened its doors in downtown Toronto, and the storied concert venue is celebrating with plans to support Canadian talent with the help of the CBC.

Today, Canada's public broadcaster and the Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall announced a new five-year programming partnership that will also see the CBC become the official media partner of Massey Hall and Allied Music Centre.

The partnership will include a new live concert series that national audiences can tune into across CBC platforms, in addition to "new programming initiatives to amplify emerging and established homegrown musical talent."

The concert series, which will be detailed this fall, will be recorded from Massey Hall's main stage and the new venues within the Allied Music Centre, including the 100-capacity community theatre and the 500-capacity club.

The recordings will then be available on CBC platforms including CBC-TV, CBC Gem, CBC Listen, CBC Radio and CBC Music.

"In bringing together these two iconic Canadian cultural brands, this groundbreaking new partnership will further elevate CBC and Massey Hall's shared commitment to nurture, support and showcase the very best of this country's musical talent across all genres," CBC executive vice president Barbara Williams, shared in a statement.

Toronto mayor John Tory has also declared today as Massey Hall Day. You can find his official proclamation alongside the venue's partnership announcement below.

Last November, Massey Hall reopened its doors following three years of renovation and revitalization work.
