Hamiltons the Marble Index add to the expansive registry of new and promising local acts, but hold one advantage which may, eventually, trump them all: variety. Equally comfortable with jerky, not-quite-reggae rhythms as with inexorable billows, the band show a strong, albeit desultory, pragmatic musical appreciation. At precisely the midway point, "Alright by Now shows just how great this band can sound; at other points, the rest of the band is left trying to catch up to Ryan Tweedles fresh and dexterous bass lines shoved to the front (exactly where they should be). A solid debut from a band that you know will only get better.
