One of the men involved in shooting Ryan Fischer, Lady Gaga's dog walker, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for attempted murder with great bodily injury.
Almost two years after the incident, 20-year-old gunman James Howard Jackson pleaded no contest to the charge in a last-minute plea deal that saw prosecutors dropping robbery and weapons-related charges, Rolling Stone reports.
Fischer faced his shooter in court, detailing the "earth-shattering event" and telling Jackson that "left me to die, and both of our lives have changed forever." Gaga's dogs — Asia, Gustav and Koji — were unharmed in the attack and subsequent dognapping, however, Fischer was left with ongoing health complications including nerve damage, a collapsed lung and mobility issues.
This summer, another man involved in the attack, 21-year-old Jaylin White, also pleaded no contest to his charge of second-degree robbery, earning a three-year stint in prison, plus one year for "gun enhancement because a different defendant was armed."
White's father Harold White and another defendant Jennifer McBride were charged as accessories after the fact, with the elder White admitting to investigators that the dogs were at his house "at some point." McBride returned the dogs to the police after their reward was posted. A third alleged dognapper, Lafayette Whaley, pleaded no contest this summer.
Prosecutors argued that Fischer was targeted for the value of his client's French bulldogs, though the assailants were apparently unaware of who they belonged to.
