Madonna's fascination with EDM culture has led to some slightly embarrassing moments in recent years, and now the Molly-hunting 55-year-old is working on a new album with one of the genre's biggest names: Diplo.
The Major Lazer producer discussed the collaboration in a new interview with Idolator, confirming reports that the pair were in the studio together. According to him, they've worked on a number of tracks together.
"Madonna was very, very open-minded to my ideas," he said of the collaboration. "I really love that. A lot of times I'm having to sell my projects and my ideas to them, but she was down from day one. We've written about seven songs now, and hopefully maybe four or five will make it to the album. I've done about three weeks with her, and we're gonna do some more projects at the end of July."
For these tracks, don't expect Diplo to tame his banging, hedonistic approach. "Those records are gonna be crazy sounding," he promised. "We really pushed the envelope with some of the stuff we were doing. The last night we were just having fun, and she was like, 'Yo, give me some of the craziest shit you've got right now,' and we literally wrote a song that night on the craziest record I had. And it worked."
While further details about Madonna's new album have yet to emerge, Diplo also revealed in an interview with Brazil's Heloisa Tolipan that they had worked on a song called "Bitch, I'm Madonna."
Rumours have suggested that the singer might also be working with Disclosure, although the duo told Billboard that they only just met her for the first time at a show, so nothing is currently in the works.
