Over the years, Madlib has continuously proven why he's one of hip-hop's most respected underground producers. He's turned collaborations with just about everyone under the sun into cult favourites and has churned out instant underground classics at a rate unheard of since Dilla's passing. Now, it's been revealed that he's collaborating with Krautrock pioneersEmbryo,
The sessions, FACT points out, yielded not only a collection of in-studio photos (visible here), but about two albums' worth of music as well.
"What will unfold is anyone's guess" says Madlib's label, Stones Throw, about the whole affair. It's been confirmed that Madlib will continue recording with Embryo vocalist Bajka on what will amount to a third collaborative album with the band. The record with Bajka is to be based around music from Embryo's 1979 album, Embryos Riese.
Madlib has booked a series of rehearsal sessions (plus one live show, in Berlin) with the band for this October.
It's uncertain at this point how much of this collaboration will make it to an official release, but we've got our ears to the ground for this one.
In related news, L.A. producer Flying Lotus has hinted that he and Madlib might get around to making an album together. How awesome might that be?
