M for Montreal has announced the first round of flagship Official Selection artists for its 16th edition.

Recognized as Quebec's most important initiative for indie music exports, the festival is set to take place this November 15 to 26 with a hybrid format. The showcase lineup includes Backxwash, Yoo Doo Right, Zoon, Naya Ali, Choses Sauvages, Bleu Nuit, Magi Merlin, Beach Body and SLM. Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Performers will take part either through a closing final video production by Parce Que Films and Pestacle, or in an experiential live setting. Virtual performances will take place throughout the festival duration, with limited in-person events being hosted from November 17 to 19.

The three days of physical programming will include showcases, panels, conferences, receptions and unique networking sessions. M for Montreal's open and pre-organized virtual networking opportunities — including the one-on-one "M for Mixer" sessions and the "Supervision Department" meetings with leading music supervisors — run throughout the 11-day festival.

Three series of panels on the future of the industry, music and technology, and empowering independence will facilitate discussions of key issues among decision-makers and influencers, while workshops on rights, branding and nightlife will offer hands-on instruction.

PRO hybrid passes to M for Montreal are on sale now, granting priority access to both online and in-person programming. Options to enhance the experience will become available to pass holders on October 5.

In addition to its professional programming, M for Montreal is also continuing to partner with local industry players to bring the festival to the public in some of the city's most iconic venues. Tickets for two of these special events — Montreal's own Fleece at Bar Le Ritz PDB on November 19 and Mothland's roster of Hot Garbage, Visibly Choked, Sunglaciers and Crabe at La Sala Rossa that same night — are available now.

Fleece were included in Exclaim!'s Sound of September release round-up, while Visibly Choked and Crabe (as well as official selections Backxwash and Yoo Doo Right) took the stage at Quebec's FME 2021.
