Five years ago, Lucy Dacus eviscerated hearts everywhere when she sang the hallowed words, "In five years, I hope the songs feel like covers / Dedicated to new lovers." The jury's still out on that manifestation, but we have at long last gotten a music video for the singer-songwriter's masterpiece "Night Shift" — the opening track from her 2018 sophomore album Historian.
Directed by Jane Schoenburn (We're All Going to the World's Fair) and starring Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), E.R. Fightmaster, Liza Anne and more, the "Night Shift" video was filmed at Poconos Palace in East Stroudsburg, PA, where Dacus works the front desk during a fan convention full of colourful characters and The Wizard of Oz references. Drag queens, hotel towels, mini golf, oh my!
Dacus is also celebrating the album's fifth anniversary with a vinyl reissue, due May 26 via Matador and now available for pre-order. We named its follow-up, Home Video, as one of the best albums of 2021.
Watch the "Night Shift" video below.
Dacus and her boygenius bandmates will release the supergroup's debut album the record on March 31.
