Vancouver pop songwriter Louise Burns is gearing up for the release of her sophomore solo album, The Midnight Mass, which is due out on July 9 through Light Organ Records. Now, she's unveiled another cut from the collection with "Jasper."
This dramatic tune channels the gothic, '80s-influenced Disintegration-isms that we previously heard on "Emeralds Shatter." A slow drum beat anchors the pillowy synthesizers and Burns' breathy purr, as the choruses swell with rich vocal harmonies.
Burns previously spoke with Exclaim! about the album, which was produced by Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, the New Pornographers, Black Mountain) and the Raveonettes' Sune Rose Wagner. It also features contributors like Cat Power's Gregg Foreman, Ladyhawk's Darcy Hancock, Dum Dum Girls' Sandy (aka Sandra Vu) and Brasstronaut's Brennan Saul.
