Lil Nas X was at the Toronto International Film Festival last night (September 9) for the premiere of his documentary Long Live Montero, and he teased the "fire-ass music" that he's preparing to drop.

The musician appeared on stage following the premiere of the film, where he was interviewed by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey alongside doc directors Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel. Bailey asked Lil Nas X when he would next perform in Toronto, and he responded, "I want to drop this good-ass, fire-ass music first, and then I'm gonna be back out there."

During the audience Q&A that followed, he noted that he's currently working on the full-length follow-up to 2021's MONTERO. When a fan asked if he wanted to hang out, he said, "Not right now — once I complete this album we're going to hang out."

Another fan asked what genres he was hoping to explore. "Hear me out," he replied. "I want to do some folk music. What else do I want to do? Like, Brazilian funk." It's not clear if those genres will be represented on his next album, or if those are long-term goals.

Elsewhere in the appearance, Bailey asked Lil Nas X what his favourite film was. "If I'm being honest, I'm really into futurism and stuff, so Back to the Future 2," he said. "Anything that has to do with time travel — I'm obsessed with time."
