TRACK OF THE DAY: Because Swedish electro-duo the Knife weren't weird and mysterious enough, Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer saw fit to record a soundtrack to an opera based on Darwin's On the Origin of the Species last year.
That soundtrack to Tomorrow, In a Year is now getting a proper release thanks to the kind folks over at Mute Records. You can download the sucker on February 2 or wait a month and get a proper two-disc CD on March 9.
The Knife are currently streaming the track "Colouring of Pigeons" on their website, where, for the price of an email, you can download the tune for free. Like the rest of the album, the track was created in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock "to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme." As expected, it walks a thin line between creepy-weird hilarious and creepy-weird awesome.
