Khruangbin's debut outing back in 2015, The Universe Smiles On You, laid the foundation; sophomore effort Con Todo El Mundo keeps building higher. The Houston-trio — Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ" Johnson on drums — have an instrumental take on soul, dub and psychedelia that mines familiar territory while taking a few well-placed detours along the way.

This time out sees the band veer into more Caribbean-versed sounds to complement their Southeast Asia-minded mentality, aka Thai funk. "Como Te Quiero" unfolds along a Motown melody with a Latin twist; "Shades of Man" weaves a hypnotic bass line in tandem with a vibrant percussive skitter; and "Evan Finds the Third Room" mines a Salsoul-esque disco bop with a satisfying soul clap.

Atmospheric grooves is the order of the day with Khruangbin's latest; by way of psychedelic rock, Con Todo El Mundo's got the groove and grips it tight.
