Kevin Drew Directs Short Film Starring Feist

In a recent interview with Paste Magazine, Broken Social Scene front-man Kevin Drew revealed that he’s made a short film based on Feist’s song "The Water.”

Shot way back in January, the film features Cillian Murphy from 28 Days Later and David Fox from Night Vision, as well as Feist, who happens to be Drew’s special lady. A scene where Feist was going to immerse herself in freezing water was cut for obvious reasons. "What I wanted was for them to go into the water," Drew said. "Leslie has so much spirit, God bless her, she was like, 'OK, I'll do it — give me a wet suit and I'll go in.' But she would have died from hypothermia and I would have probably had a hate list the size of Canada, so we didn't do that.”

Drew plans to submit the film to festivals and see what happens from there. It’s all meant as a springboard into directing. "I wanted to do a short film before I went and did a full-length feature,” he said. "I'm not someone who can be educated in a classroom or by sitting down and having someone explain things to me; I need to be doing it and in there to truly learn. So, it was just one step closer to another passion and another outlet to have. And I enjoy very much telling and making up stories.”
