The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2023. This year's inductees are Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, George Michael, Sheryl Crow and the Spinners.
A few others are also making it into the Rock Hall by winning awards in different categories. Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin are getting the Musical Excellence Award, while DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray are getting the Musical Influence Award and late Soul Train host Don Cornelius is being honoured with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
"This year's incredible group of inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chairman John Sykes said in a statement. "We are honoured that this November's Induction ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture; the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop."
The rest of the 2023 nominees that didn't make the cut are the White Stripes, Soundgarden, Joy Division/New Order, A Tribe Called Quest, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden and Warren Zevon.
The White Stripes seem like a notable snub with both the 20th anniversary of Elephant and the return of "Is Meg White a good drummer?" discourse. Courtney Love called it in her scathing op-ed for The Guardian: "You sense that if voters could get Jack White in without her, they would do it today," she wrote, calling for a complete overhaul of the voting process.
The induction ceremony will take place on November 3 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
Last year's Rock Hall inductees were Dolly Parton, Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics and Pat Benatar.
