The raspy, guttural vocals of July Talk's Peter Dreimanis are unmistakable, and shot across the dusky park on the second night of Rifflandia. Opening with "Picturing Love," off their latest album Touch, it was easy to see the ease with which July Talk operate.
Always engaging with the packed audience, they gave praise, thanks and respect as much as they threw down on stage, and the crowd responded in kind, singing along with most songs, filling in the shouts on "Summer Dress."
One of July Talk's selling points is the repertoire and relationship of singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay, and their seamless, back and forth performative interactions. Their chemistry is remarkable and adds a layer to tracks like "Gentleman," when the two play off each other and banter face to face. If you throw in Fay's crowd walk at the end of the show, it was a great way to close out the night.
