Who are you?
Juliana Hatfield
What are you up to?
I'm getting ready to go on tour with my new band. Also taking shoulder pads out of two jackets that I recently purchased.
Hometown and current HQ:
Hometown: Duxbury, MA; Current: Cambridge, MA
Current fixations:
"Why Does It Always Rain On Me" by Travis. I find the singer's voice to be incredibly soothing.
Mind altering work of art:
All of Samuel Beckett's novels that I have read blow me away. It is as if he is writing the contents of my mind.
Most memorable/inspirational gig and why?
Touring with Jeff Buckley was nightly inspiration. Two weeks of heaven.
What should everyone shut up about?
Elian Gonzales
Your greatest strength/weakness:
Self-sufficiency: both my greatest strength and my greatest weakness.
Your vital daily ritual:
Walk the dog and then tea and toast.
Guilty pleasures:
Chupa Chups (a kind of lollipop) and Faith Hill (not at the same time).
If I wasn't playing music i would be
In a mental hospital.
Your most memorable day job:
I can't remember any of them.
Best/worst advice received:
My father once told me that the three best ways to get to know someone were to 1) play poker with him/her; 2) get drunk with him/her; or 3) have sex with him/her. Number three is really bad advice, but number one is actually a great way to get to know someone.
I would drop everything to play a benefit for
An ailing friend.
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
Not much.
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band and/or bed? And have you?
Out-of-control drug problems have made me give people the boot (out of the band, not out of bed).
When I think of Canada I think
Hassles at the border, and friends.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Yes, there is a difference. Music is essential and sex is not.
Strangest brush with celebrity:
When people treat me like a celebrity, I think it is very strange.
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
Nothing. She loves that I do what I do.
