Joel Plaskett Signs to Pheromone Recordings for New Album

Toronto's Pheromone Recordings has added one of the Maritimes' most beloved songwriters to its roster, as Halifax indie rock lifer Joel Plaskett has signed to the label in advance of his next album.

Recording for the new LP hasn't actually begun yet, but Plaskett is planning to get things underway soon at his own New Scotland Yard studio. This will be his eighth album since the breakup of his old band Thrush Hermit; it's due out in early 2015.

Pheromone is a natural fit for Plaskett, since the label's founder Kim Cooke is the same person who signed him to MapleMusic Recordings a decade ago. Both MapleMusic and Pheromone fall under the MapleCore Ltd. umbrella, so this isn't a huge jump for Plaskett.

The tunesmith said in a statement, "I'm really excited to be releasing my next record through Pheromone and to be working with Kim again. He's been a huge supporter of what I do and he continues to navigate an ever-changing music business with integrity and class."

Plaskett will headline Pheromone's label showcase during NXNE at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on June 21. The showcase will also feature Steph Cameron, Mo Kenney, the Wilderness of Manitoba and Bidiniband. Tickets are available here.

When the new Plaskett album arrives, it will be follow-up to 2012's Scrappy Happiness.
