Joe Rogan Threatens to Quit Podcasting with Spotify If He Has to "Walk on Eggshells"

The podcast host says he will stop working with the streaming giant if he has to "mind [his] P's and Q's"

Just when you thought things had been awfully quiet on the whole Neil Young vs. Joe Rogan and Spotify front for a spell, the podcast host is once again doing what they pay him the big bucks for: talking.

This time, Rogan has threatened to stop working with the streaming giant, who purchased the exclusive rights to The Joe Rogan Experience in a three-year deal worth a cool $200 million USD back in 2020, if he has to censor himself. Namely, "mind [his] P's and Q's," or "walk on eggshells."

In his March 29 episode with MMA fighter Josh Barnett, Rogan — a former martial arts commentator himself — discussed his relationship with the podcast industry.

"I will quit," the host told his guest, "If it gets to a point that I can't do it anymore, where I have to do it in some sort of weird way where I walk on eggshells and mind my P's and Q's — fuck that!"

Rogan went on to allude to the other controversies surrounding him and the pod, including his notable use of racist slurs, expressing his concern for "every little thing" coming under scrutiny.

"There's more people poring over it but it's the same thing; I do it the same way," the podcaster continued. "If I become something different because it grew bigger, I will quit."

With a listenership at an estimated 11 million per episode, it has indeed become the world's biggest podcast — and its host has become the de-facto face of the villain in the Spotify exodus.

Last month, Spotify reportedly removed around 70 episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience for Rogan's derogatory language around race, which India.Arie cited as her reasoning for following Young's lead and removing her music from the platform — as did Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills.

The company's CEO Daniel Ek has defended his decision to continue streaming Rogan's podcast, but the streamer did promise to add a content warning to podcasts about COVID-19 following criticisms about spreading vaccine misinformation

"I'm not a doctor, I'm not a scientist," Rogan said back in January. "I'm just a person who sits down and talks to people and has conversations with them. Do I get things wrong? Absolutely."

Freddie Gibbs recently weighed in on the situation, appearing on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience and saying, "Fuck Neil Young."
