Though long-time fans may be disappointed by the lack of even one new or exclusive track, Collaborations does offer a narrow glimpse at the range of the queen of neo-soul, Jill Scott. In compiling Scotts contributions to songs by other artists (and occasionally, vice versa), this record connects the singer to stars of hip-hop, R&B and jazz. As such, the record could be an excellent primer for those unfamiliar with Scott but, more often than not, these songs find her relegated to the background, which is an insult to her status. Drawing from Scotts own catalogue, this compilation features two remixes of "Love Rain with Mos Def that are enjoyable enough but "One Time with Eric Roberson is an unfortunate addition. "Daydreamin was a hit for Lupe Fiasco last year so its inclusion is sensible but it takes Common to match a voice as charismatic as Scotts and their chemistry is why "8 Minutes to Sunrise and "Funky for You were so gratifying when they first hit. Other than these and the beautiful Chris Botti jazz collab, "Good Morning Heartache, there is little here to adequately tide fans over until Scotts next proper album.
