With their 1985 classic, Psychocandy, the Jesus and Mary Chain created a fuzz-pop blueprint that has been imitated by countless bands. Now, the forward-thinking Scottish group will have their finest moments compiled on a new two-disc best-of set, due out today in the UK via Music Club Deluxe.
Entitled Upside Down: The Best of the Jesus and Mary Chain, the forty-four song collection spans their entire career, drawing on all six full-lengths as well as B-sides and non-LP cuts. As Slicing Up Eyeballs notes, it includes two rare tracks: "45 RPM" (an alternative version of Hate Rock 'n' Roll's "33 1/3") and the recent reunion track "All Things Must Pass."
The set is said to be a tie-in with the new documentary about Creation Records, which is also called Upside Down.
This isn't the first time the Jesus and Mary Chain have been anthologized. 2002's 21 Singles compiled the bands best-known tracks, while 2008's The Power of Negative Thinking brought together four discs of rarities and non-album material. This latest collection, however, is perhaps the most complete overview of the band's entire catalog. See the tracklist below.
