Jason Blum Bowed to Taylor Swift in Eras Concert Film–'Exorcist' Showdown

The two films were both scheduled to come out on October 13 — but the release date for 'The Exorcist: Believer' has since changed

What an excellent day for an Exorswift-ism.

Producer Jason Blum has decided to push the cinematic release date of The Exorcist: Believer forward after Taylor Swift announced the surprise release of her sold-out Eras Tour concert film on the same day.

"We had this amazing Friday the 13th in October, which is the single best day to release a scary movie," Blum told Entertainment Weekly.

When Swift announced that she'd be releasing the concert documentary on the same day, Blum was quick to tweet "#Exorswift," in hopes of eliciting a response in the same vein as the summer Barbenheimer trend. Ultimately, however, the producer decided it was too risky to face off against Swift in a box-office battle, and moved the release date to October 6.

"The one thing that scares me to death is Taylor Swift!" says Blum.

The Exorcist: Believer isn't the only movie to cave to the magnitude of Swift's concert doc, however. Dumb Money, which was also scheduled to release on Friday, October 13, ended up coming to theatres sooner than expected, with its release on September 29. Rom-com What Happens Later, starring Meg Ryan, was also scheduled to release on the same day, and was eventually changed to November 3.

There's no bad blood here, though; "People will still have the Exorswift opportunity, so maybe we got to have our cake and eat it too," says Blum.
