Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch is finally arriving next month, and it's just been announced that former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker — credited as the imaginary pop artist Tip-Top — will be releasing an album of classic French pop songs as a companion piece to the film. Chansons D'Ennui Tip-Top will arrive via ABKCO on October 22 alongside the movie.
Recorded by Cocker's band JARV IS, the album includes covers of Serge Gainsbourg's "Requiem Pour Un Con," Françoise Hardy's "Mon Ami La Rose," Brigitte Bardot's "Contact" and Jacques Dutronc's "Les Gens Sont Fous, Les Temps Sont Flous."
The trailer for The French Dispatch dropped in February, and was soundtracked by what turned out to be the first taste of Chansons D'Ennui Tip-Top — Crocker's cover of Christophe's 1966 single "Aline." Cocker has now shared the full version of the song, which you can listen to below.
And if that's not enough Wes Anderson for you, the universe of The French Dispatch is expanding further with a series of films curated by Anderson for NYC's The French Institute called "Wes Anderson's French Connection."
The series runs from September 14 to October 26 at FIAF Florence Gould Hall as well as online. Selected films include Jacques Beckers' Antoine and Antoinette, François Truffaut's The Man Who Loved Women and Diane Kurys' Peppermint Soda, among many others.
Chansons D'Ennui Tip-Top:
1. Dans Ma Chambre (Dalida cover)
2. Contact (Brigitte Bardot cover)
3. La Tendresse (Marie LaFôret cover)
4. Amour, Je Te Cherche (Nino Ferrer & Radiah cover)
