UK-based James Holden has made an album that is rhythmically disjointed, schizophrenic and influenced to some degree by his days as a progressive house DJ/producer. "Lump, the title to the opening track off The Idiots are Winning, is set to a 4/4 house beat accompanied by caustic shoegaziness and sporadic child-like vocal bits that are ever so slightly reminiscent of Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Chris Clark. Make no mistake though, the remaining nine cuts each carry their own weight with a minimalistic, icy sensibility.
