Vinyl advocate and Third Man Records boss Jack White is known as something of music historian, and he very much lives up to that reputation in a newly shared clip, which shows him recognizing Beatles songs after hearing just a one-second snippet.

In the video, which looks like it was filmed at least a few years ago, someone off-camera puts White to the test by playing the opening second from a series of Beatles songs. Without fail, he's able to name them all.

Some of these one-second intros are quite recognizable, like the bouncing piano of "Lady Madonna" or the wheezing harmonica of "From Me to You," but others aren't nearly as distinctive, like simple strumming that opens "I'm Looking Through You" or the noodling room sounds of "Get Back." The swirling, feedback-y noise that opens "Dear Prudence" nearly fools him, but fear not, he gets there in the end.

It's not quite clear when this was filmed, but White doesn't have the short blue hair that he's been sporting since last year, so it appears to be from the archives. His official Instagram account shared the clip a couple weeks ago.

Watch the extremely impressive display of Beatles knowledge below. While we're on the subject, Exclaim! recently named the best cover version of all 184 Beatles songs.

Jack White will be touring this year in support of the new albums Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive.
