An evening timeslot on the soggy second day of Supercrawl would have been better suited to the club-ready beats of Humans, who were without their engaging lightshow under the grey Hamilton skies. A slower start to the set based around a simple drum pattern saw vocalist Robbie Slade run his voice through a vocoder, occasionally incorporating clean singing alongside his partner Peter Ricq. Though the stage tech got the light rig to come to life halfway through the set, it wasn't nearly as effective as it could have been after dark.
Without their visuals, the duo did well in staying active behind their tables of gear to add a bit of life to the pared-down stage setup. Ricq would step back from his microphone to lose himself in some tight four-on-the-floor beats, urging the crowd to clap along with him while Slade danced on the spot. "At the Beach" gave a tip of the hat to Yello's "Oh Yeah," as Slade pitched his voice incredibly low, while "Ennio" was a clinic in looping and sampling his own vocals before drowning them in reverb to form additional textures. The less-than-ideal weather inspired listeners to dig the deep bass lines and acid techno-esque leads in their own headspaces, but there's nothing to say the two couldn't pack a dance floor indoors or at a darker time of day.
