Polaris Music Prize season has officially begun, as the 2020 long list has been announced.
The list of award nominees for this year's prize includes U.S. Girls, Lido Pimienta, Caribou, Daniel Caesar, Andy Shauf, Jessie Reyez, Allie X, Badge Époque Ensemble, William Prince, Witch Prophet, Aquakultre, Joel Plaskett, Wares, Corridor, WHOOP-Szo, Ice Cream, the Weeknd, Pantayo and more.
Artists eligible for the Polaris Music Prize — now in its 15th year — must have released an album between May 1, 2019, and May 31, 2020. Of the 40 Canadian artists announced on the long list, only 10 will move on to the short list.
Short list finalists will be announced on July 15. Later this year, the grand Polaris Music Prize winner will then take home the grand prize of $50,000. The nine runners-up will receive prizes of $3,000 each (courtesy of Slaight Music).
An independent jury of music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from across Canada determines both the long list and short list.
