Hear the Best New Canadian Holiday Music: PIQSIQ, Coeur de pirate, NADUH, Mother Mother

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Dec 16, 2022

We've held off on jingling our bells for as long as we could, but it's time to give in to the season. It's about giving, right? It's giving...  giving. Our first act of generosity: compiling the best new Canadian holiday music in a handy playlist to tickle your festive fancy.

After landing on our best Canadian Christmas songs of 2021 list, Inuit throat-singing sister duo PIQSIQ are back to beautifully decolonize another classic hymn. Coeur de pirate envisions her "Parfait Noël," while Exclaim! New Faves alumni NADUH whet their appetite with "MILF & COOKIES" and those winter wonderland weirdos in Mother Mother have themselves a creepy little Christmas.

Elsewhere, Stars are hellbent on continuing their H&M boycott but still celebrating "Christmas Anyway," Hot Hot Heat offshoot Fur Trade are trapped inside a box with their theatrical jingle "Christmas in a Cage" and Cape Breton's Villages offer a Celtic-tinged "Merry Christmas (From the Dowie Dens)."

Whatever the reason for the season, get into the latest additions to the Christmas CanCon canon with The Holid-Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
