Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Nelly Furtado, Helena Deland, Akintoye, the Tragically Hip

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Sep 1, 2023

September is here! It's a crisp new page in a fresh notebook, calendar or phone screen — whichever you prefer — and Canadian artists have provided the soundtrack for the clean slate.

But what would novelty be without a little nostalgia? Nelly Furtado reunites with her old hit-making pals Timbaland and Justin Timberlake on "Keep Going Up," and the Tragically Hip share a new outtake from the 25th anniversary Phantom Power box set. Meanwhile, rising stars Helena Deland and Akintoye return with new singles.

Elsewhere, Guelph's Excuse Me. are in the spirit of moving on, having released their new EP, II: Left Behind. And don't call it a comeback, but Jon Jasper-Lawless has remarked that some things simply "Stay the Same" on his first solo single in eight years.

Let some affection for the past inform your next steps forward into the wilderness of a new month with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
